My counselling approach is best described as working from a Person-Centred core but in an integrative way. This means that whilst I retain the belief that every human being is an individual with unique and valid thoughts, and knows instinctively what is best for them, there may be times that I will draw upon other psychological models to guide our work and which may help you to tap into and trust your inner resources so that you can respond to the challenges in your life, your way. These could include CBT exercises, Solution Focused Therapy, Play Therapy and Art therapy.
I consider the relationship between us as the single most important factor for a successful outcome in therapy, so I will work flexibly and collaboratively with you in a way that fits the therapy to you, not the other way around. I do not adhere to a specific school of thought but instead take skills from different approaches and tailor them to suit your needs whilst maintaining the Person-Centred ethos.
Not all counsellors are right for everyone so I like to begin with a free initial 15 minute telephone consultation in order for us to get to know each other. This way we have the chance to discuss your reasons for coming to counselling and you can get a feel for my working style and whether we connect. If you then feel that we could work together, we will discuss a time and day that would be suitable for us both and take it from there. If you feel we cannot work together then I will be happy to refer you to someone else.
Confidentiality, trust and your privacy are very important to me so I will always endeavour to provide a safe and impartial space for you to speak openly and I will take good care of your personal information.
