My Approach

I’ve been trained in various approaches, though my core is Person Centred. My belief is that every human being is an individual with unique and valid thoughts, and knows instinctively what is best for them. My aim is to foster and deepen your self awareness and support you on your journey to being the best you can be. It is not about giving you advice or deciding what is best for you, but is a collaborative relationship offering support, compassion and empathy.

I consider the relationship between us as being the single, most important factor for a successful outcome in therapy. You will always be my focus and I will work flexibly and collaboratively with you in a way that fits the therapy to you. I may at times draw upon other psychological models to guide our work and help you to tap into and trust your inner resources so that you can respond to the challenges in your life, your way. These could include CBT exercises, Solution Focused Therapy and Art therapy.

Not all counsellors are right for everyone so I like to begin with a free initial 15 minute telephone consultation in order for us to get to know each other. This way we have the chance to discuss your reasons for coming to counselling and get a feel for whether we connect. If you then think that we could work together, we will arrange a time and day that would suit us both and take it from there. If you feel we cannot work together then I will be happy to refer you to someone else.

Confidentiality, trust and your privacy are very important to me so I will always endeavour to provide a safe and impartial space for you to speak openly and I will take good care of your personal information.
