It is not about giving advice or deciding what is best for you, but is a collaborative relationship offering support, compassion and empathy. This can help you make sense of any difficulties, help you find your own solutions, resolve past issues and bring about positive changes.
There are many different approaches to counselling so it’s important to find the right counsellor for you. This is a very individual process – you may find it useful to have an initial meeting to discuss what brings you to counselling and to get a feel for how therapy could help. Feeling comfortable and safe is the first step to effective counselling.
